With the Heat in urgent need of “inspiration” after their 115-110 loss to the Hornets, which left his team winless in its first three games of the season.
Miami trailed by as many as 22 points in the third quarter, but staged an impressive comeback with a 29-10 run, led by Davion Mitchell and Bam Adebayo alongside Pelle Larson, Tim Hardaway Jr., and Bobby Portis Jr. The Heat even managed to tie the score consecutively at 100-100, 102-102, and 104-104.
“Our system is our system. We can play with that energy at any point in the game. When we don’t, it’s our choice, and we pay the price,” Spoelstra said of his team’s response.
The veteran coach particularly highlighted what he saw from that specific starting five in the second half. “That was something that inspired us, and ultimately, what I told the team now is that we need inspiration,” he emphasized.
The 0-3 record, however, has historical significance for Spoelstra. Specifically, it is the first time in his 19-year tenure as head coach of the Heat that the team has started a season with three consecutive losses.
