Breathtaking scenes were captured at Birmingham Airport when a Jet2 aircraft encountered serious difficulties during landing, due to strong winds brought by Storm “Booelo.” The plane, which was flying from Venice to the British city, briefly veered off the runway before the pilots managed to bring it back safely.
The incident was captured on a video that has been released, showing the difficult conditions under which the landing took place. Despite the aircraft’s severe swaying and temporary deviation from its course, the incident ended without any injuries, and all passengers disembarked safely.
The aircraft veered off the runway and ended up on the grass
The video shows the aircraft approaching the runway, with strong winds hampering the landing attempt. Upon touching down, the plane sways violently as gusts of wind affect its course.
A Jet2 Boeing 737 lands at Birmingham in a strong crosswind. It looks odd from behind, but it’s the standard way to hold the approach path in a strong crosswind. During the rollout the jet drifts toward the edge of the runway before the pilots steer it back to the centreline. From the frames I can see, it stays on the pavement. Crews train for exactly this, so it looks wild on camera but sits well within normal limits.

The aircraft’s nose then veers toward the edge of the runway, and, due to its speed, the plane temporarily leaves the tarmac, skidding across the grass. Dirt and mud are flung from the wheels, highlighting the intensity of the moment.
The pilots managed to correct the course and steer the aircraft back onto the runway, avoiding a potentially much more dangerous outcome. The plane continued its taxi to the parking position as normal.
What Jet2 said about the incident in Birmingham
A spokesperson for the airline confirmed the incident, attributing it to the particularly adverse weather conditions prevailing in the area.
“Flight LS1310 from Venice to Birmingham was temporarily moved off the runway after landing at Birmingham Airport, due to the extreme weather conditions caused by Storm ‘Booelo’,” the spokesperson said, according to the Mirror.
As he clarified, the aircraft immediately returned to the runway and continued to its parking position. Meanwhile, the airline confirmed that all passengers disembarked without incident.

Winds of up to 130 km/h and flight disruptions
The incident occurred amid severe weather in Britain, with wind gusts reportedly reaching 130 kilometers per hour in various parts of the country.
The adverse weather conditions caused significant disruptions to air travel, with flight cancellations and lengthy delays making it difficult for travelers to get where they needed to go.
The ordeal of Flight LS1310 highlighted the challenges crews face when called upon to land aircraft under extreme weather conditions. In this particular case, the landing was completed without any injuries, despite the dramatic moments captured at Birmingham Airport.
