Laboratory test results for Legionella at the private clinic in Nicosia, which had suspended operations after the bacterium was detected, have come back negative. Meanwhile, the infant diagnosed with Legionnaires’ disease remains in critical condition at the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit of Makarios Hospital.
The results the Ministry of Health was awaiting from the State Chemical Laboratory came back negative, paving the way for the hospital’s reopening.
According to the Director of Medical Services, Elisabeth Konstantinou, who also serves as Commissioner for Private Clinics, the green light has already been given for the clinic to resume operations, following the new laboratory data.
The OAU was also informed
Following this development, the Health Insurance Organization (OAY), which had suspended its contract with the clinic, was also notified.
As a result of the suspension, the clinic was unable to operate as a contracted provider of inpatient care under the General Health System (GESY). Specifically, it could not admit new patients through the System, nor could it submit claims for reimbursement for services it provided.
Following these negative results, steps are expected to be taken to lift the suspension of the contract with the OAY.
