New online features are being added to the Digital Citizen app, with the aim of better serving the public and making it easier to manage personal documents. The feature that sends notifications for documents nearing their expiration date is already up and running, so that users are notified in a timely manner and can take the necessary steps to renew them.
Speaking on the Alpha News program, the Chief of Staff of the Deputy Ministry of Innovation and project manager, Michalis Beis, explained that notifications are sent to users’ cell phones 30 days and 15 days before the expiration of each document integrated into the app. At the same time, citizens who have already obtained a new document can easily add it to the app by following the relevant procedure provided in the notification.
Which documents does the new feature cover?
The feature that notifies users of an upcoming expiration applies to documents already available in Digital Citizen. Specifically, these include:
- The national ID card.
- The driver’s license.
- The vehicle inspection certificate (MOT).
- The fan card.
- Minor ID cards.
The feature will be expanded to include new documents that will be integrated into the app, depending on the capabilities that are added.
Upcoming New Additions
Significant additions are also planned for the near future, as the Deputy Ministry of Innovation moves forward with integrating additional documents into the Digital Citizen platform. As Michalis Beis noted, by the end of the year, registration certificates for European citizens, as well as residence permits for third-country nationals, are expected to be added.
Plans also include tickets for First Division soccer matches, which will be integrated directly into the fan card via the app.
Cross-border features are also on the way
A significant upgrade is expected next year with the integration of the European digital wallet. According to Mr. Bey, this addition will enable cross-border functionality within the European Union, expanding the Digital Citizen’s capabilities beyond current limits.
172,000 users
According to data presented by Michalis Beis, approximately 172,000 citizens have downloaded the app onto their cell phones. The addition of new features is expected to further enhance the app’s usefulness, making citizens’ daily lives easier and reducing the need for separate procedures to manage their documents.
