The police are investigating a case of kidnapping with intent to murder in connection with the disappearance of a 61-year-old woman in Limassol, and as part of the investigation, a 43-year-old man was arrested; the Limassol District Court today issued an order for his eight-day detention.
According to testimony obtained by investigators, the missing woman was reportedly in a relationship with the suspect, and there appear to have been tensions between them over financial disputes.
The investigation is in full swing, with the police also looking into the possibility of other individuals being involved.
In his statements, the Assistant Police Director of Limassol, Lefteris Kyriakou, stated that initial investigations following the report of the disappearance revealed evidence that steered the investigation toward the possibility of a criminal act.
“The protocol for missing persons was immediately implemented. Investigations were conducted, and very soon evidence emerged suggesting that this might have been a criminal act,” he noted.

As he explained, after the woman’s disappearance and photograph were made public, the police received information, which was evaluated and investigated, reinforcing suspicions of a criminal act.
He added that the investigation evidence emerged against a specific 43-year-old man who, after the missing woman’s photo was released, allegedly booked a ticket online and attempted to leave the country.
“He was located and arrested,” Mr. Kyriakou stated, adding that the charge for which he appeared in court is kidnapping with intent to murder.
Alleged romantic relationship and financial disputes
When asked about the suspect’s relationship with the 61-year-old woman and the possible motives, Mr. Kyriakou stated that, according to the testimony obtained, the woman appeared to have been in a relationship with the 43-year-old.
According to the same testimony, the suspect allegedly told the 61-year-old woman that he owed a large sum of money due to a personal matter and was asking her for money.
“This appears to be one of the points of contention,” he said.
The 43-year-old, according to the Assistant Police Director of Limassol, has made certain claims; however, he has so far denied any involvement in the case.
Investigations into the last known location of the cell phone
Regarding the search for the woman, Mr. Kyriakou stated that the day after the report was filed, her vehicle was found parked in the Linopetra area.
The vehicle was seized by the authorities and taken for examination, while searches were simultaneously conducted in open areas, based on information regarding the last signal transmitted by the missing woman’s cell phone.
When asked whether there was a specific direction in which the suspect might have traveled after committing the crime or any indication of the woman’s whereabouts, Mr. Kyriakou stated that “the only thing we have is the signal last emitted by the missing woman’s cell phone.”

Identity of Two More Individuals Verified
Meanwhile, investigators are examining testimony stating that two individuals were seen on specific dates, with authorities attempting to verify their identities and determine whether they are connected to the 43-year-old.
“Reports have emerged regarding certain individuals, which are being evaluated,” said Mr. Kyriakou, adding that various pieces of evidence have been found, both in the vehicle and at other locations, which will be sent for forensic analysis.
Regarding the two individuals who, according to witness testimony, were seen on specific dates, Mr. Kyriakou said that the police are trying to identify them and are investigating whether they may be connected to the suspect.
The woman’s disappearance was reported to the police on October 28, 2026, by her legal counsel; according to the initial report, she has been unjustifiably absent from her home in Limassol since October 23.
Mr. Kyriakou stated that the investigation began immediately upon her disappearance and is continuing with the aim of solving the case and locating the woman.
