Paphos managed to salvage a draw in the final minutes of their match against Apollon, securing a draw (2-2) in the 8th round of the Cyprus League by Stoiximan.
Ricardo Sa Pinto’s team started the game strong and took the lead in the 18th minute with a goal by Lele. However, the rest of the match did not go as planned, as the visitors came under significant pressure and were unable to avoid individual mistakes, giving the home team the opportunity to turn the score around. The Portuguese coach tried to turn his team’s fortunes around with substitutions from the bench, with Anderson proving to be a “golden” substitution, as he scored the equalizer from the penalty spot. In fact, in the final minutes, Paphos even sought a complete comeback, but Koun stopped the Brazilian.
On the positive side for the “Blues” is the return of David Luiz following his injury. Meanwhile, the status of Goldar, Pepe, and Engameleu is expected to become clearer in the coming days, with Maé joining the list of concerns, as he was left out of the squad and his condition will be evaluated shortly.
Now, Paphos is turning its attention to Europe, as this coming Thursday (Nov. 5, 10:00 p.m.) they will face Twente in the Netherlands as part of Matchday 3 of the Conference League’s League Phase. The “Blues” are looking for a positive result, as they have recorded one draw and one loss in their first two matches.
