The timelines for the completion of the expansion and upgrade of the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at Makarios Hospital in Nicosia will be met, with the building project expected to be delivered around the end of July 2027, assured OKYPY spokesperson Charalambos Charilaou.

In statements to KYPE, Mr. Charilaou noted that “the project is proceeding as planned” and that the scheduled timelines are being met, noting that the progress of the work is in accordance with the provisions of the contract.

When asked about the project’s completion rate, the OKYPY spokesperson stated that he could not specify the exact percentage of completion, as this depends on the progress of the work and the terms of the contract.

He added, however, that if the contractual obligations are not met, appropriate penalties are provided for, including the imposition of fines.

Mr. Charilaou spoke of a “necessary” expansion and upgrade of the facility, emphasizing that it will benefit patients and their families.

As he noted, this is a modern facility that will fully meet both Cyprus’s current and future needs, while providing significant support to healthcare professionals and ensuring a safe working environment.

Regarding the equipment for the new facility, Mr. Charilaou noted that the building project is expected to be completed by the end of July 2027, as previously announced, adding that “all necessary steps have been taken to secure the unit’s equipment.”

Regarding the operation of the existing plant during construction, he assured that it is operating normally and without any restrictions due to the construction work.

As he explained, at this stage, exterior work related to the expansion is being carried out, so that renovation work can proceed thereafter.
