According to information they received, the 51% goat and sheep milk content in PDO halloumi will not change and will remain the same in 2029, Neophytos Neophytou, President of “The Voice of Livestock Farmers,” told CNA.
As he noted, cheese makers are expected to send a letter requesting a change to the quota, a position with which the “Voice of the Livestock Farmers” disagrees.
The livestock farmers, he said, intend to file objections both individually and collectively, expressing the belief that these will not be rejected by the European Union and that there will be no change to the quota.
“If everyone doesn’t help the goat and sheep farming sector recover, halloumi will be lost,” he warned, calling on cheese makers and dairy farmers to contribute to the effort to revitalize the sector.
Finally, he noted that 95% of the members of “The Voice of Livestock Farmers” are goat and sheep farmers, emphasizing that the organization addresses the livestock sector as a whole, does not serve any political parties, and operates on a nonprofit basis.
