An alarm was triggered in the early hours of Sunday morning in Larissa when armed men attempted to rob a large business located on the road from Larissa – Ampelona, taking two private security guards hostage and, according to reports, firing shots at a third person.

The incident occurred shortly after 2 a.m., when the police received a call from an employee of the security company, who reported that three to four individuals, armed with guns, had broken into the company’s premises with the intent to commit a robbery.

According to the employee’s report, the perpetrators began shooting at him while he was inside his vehicle. At the same time, two of his colleagues were being held hostage by the gunmen inside the building.

According to onlarissa.gr, a large police force rushed to the scene and a chase ensued, as the perpetrators reportedly abandoned the scene and fled in a passenger car, leaving behind the two security guards they had taken hostage.

A short time later, the getaway vehicle was found burned in the Damasios area, where it is believed the perpetrators abandoned it in order to continue their escape.

Of particular interest is the fact that, according to reports, the business owner had previously been the victim of an armed robbery inside his own home. On that occasion, the perpetrators, threatening him with pistols, managed to extort a large sum of money from him, and some of them were subsequently arrested.

Police authorities are investigating the circumstances of the latest attempted robbery and are searching for the perpetrators.

The owner of the security company told protothema.gr:

“An SUV drove up to the offices, and the perpetrators held an employee at gunpoint. Our company was notified, and one of our vehicles went to the scene. The perpetrators then fired at the company vehicle, so our driver backed up and waited for a police car to arrive.

They came to take the safe, broke the windows, and fled because the alarm went off.

“There were 4–5 people, all hooded and armed.”
