DISY fires back: Why doesn’t AKEL dare to run its own candidate?

Democratic alarm "lashes out" at AKEL and the christodoulides government
ALPHANEWSLIVE

The Democratic Alarm is launching a fierce attack against AKEL, as well as the Christodoulides government, in response to statements by the General Secretary of the left-wing party regarding its return to power.

In a statement, DISY questions AKEL’s credibility, bringing back into the spotlight the economic crisis that occurred during AKEL’s own time in government. At the same time, it criticizes the current government’s handling of affairs, citing “lack of coordination, sloppiness, timidity, and inefficiency.”

Here is DISY’s statement in its entirety:

AKEL wants power again. But on what grounds?

AKEL’s General Secretary accuses the Democratic Rally and argues that AKEL must be in power.

That is, the party under whose governance Cyprus was cut off from international markets, plunged into a deep economic crisis, and driven into unemployment, business closures, poverty, and destitution.

And if, as AKEL claims, it represents society and integrity, while others represent vested interests, why doesn’t it dare to run its own candidate?

Are they perhaps admitting the truth from the outset? Are they perhaps indirectly admitting that what they continue to impose on society has been tried and has failed?

It took enormous sacrifices from citizens, difficult decisions, and ten years of continuous effort to get the economy back on its feet and to hand over, in 2023, a country with growth, fiscal stability, and restored international credibility by 2023.

The Democratic Alarm stands by this course.

Only under a Democratic Alarm coalition government can the country, on the one hand, leave behind the disarray, the sloppiness, timidity, and inefficiency of the Christodoulides government, and, on the other hand, avoid disastrous left-wing experiments.

Only in this way will the country move forward effectively, with stability, a vision for the future, and optimism.
