The Police have announced a Cyprus-wide awareness and enforcement campaign to combat distracted driving, with a focus on the use of cell phones or other objects without a hands-free device.
The campaign will begin tomorrow, Monday, November 2, 2026, and will conclude next Sunday, November 8, 2026. Throughout the campaign, members of the Traffic Police will conduct targeted traffic checks throughout Cyprus.
According to data from the three-year period 2023–2025, careless driving and distracted driving account for 22.1% of fatal traffic collisions, while they account for 29.4% of serious road injuries.
This is the leading cause of serious and fatal traffic collisions, a fact that highlights the severity of the problem and the need for drivers to comply with traffic safety rules.
