The groom and the best man, who are currently in custody, turned in Tuesday, to the Limassol Traffic Police the “stripped-down” vehicle allegedly involved in the wedding drift at a roundabout, which was recorded on a cell phone and went viral online.
After the two suspects, against whom a two-day detention order was issued, were brought in for questioning, police authorities requested that the vehicle seen in the wedding drift video be turned over to them.
The 28-year-old driver handed over only the vehicle’s body, which, according to his claims, is allegedly the vehicle in the video in question. These claims are expected to be investigated to determine whether this is indeed the vehicle in question.
However, the police have serious reservations and are not convinced that the vehicle that was turned in is the one shown in the video, as stated by Marios Charalambous, Head of the Limassol Traffic Police, noting that authorities are continuing their investigation to locate the vehicle in question. The license plate numbers are similar, but there are other differences, Mr. Charalambous added.
The entire incident, which took place on a public road between the groom and the best man after the wedding ceremony and before the start of the couple’s wedding reception, lasted no more than a few minutes said Mr. Charalambous, adding that during questioning, the two suspects claimed that the vehicle had been transported to the scene by a tow truck and that they had unloaded it to stage this “display”. The vehicle presented to the police lacked the relevant documents (registration, etc.) and this may be why they claimed that it had been brought there by a tow truck, Mr. Charalambous surmised.
“The suspects essentially handed over a car body without being able to identify the rest of the car’s components yesterday”
In addition to the two individuals arrested, authorities are searching for the drivers of the tow trucks and certain other vehicles that had blocked the road to allow the suspects to perform the drift, while authorities are also investigating the person seen in the video using fireworks.
