The Cabinet approved the national blood strategy at its meeting today. As Health Minister Neophytos Charalambides explained after the meeting, this involves a modern, digitized system that will ensure the adequacy, quality, and safety of blood supplies.
Mr. Charalambides also emphasized that the government aims to promote voluntary blood donation and ensure equal access for all patients to the blood they need.
Referring to the protest by medical students who claim that the bill downgrades university clinics, he noted that the government is in open communication with academics, who have submitted recommendations that will be taken into account during the debate in Parliament.
Regarding the pressing issue of nursing shortages, the government has taken decisions, and we are seeing a significant increase in the number of nursing students at universities, as the Minister stated.
Furthermore, among the measures taken by the government “was the regulated employment of nurses from third countries. We have substantiated this position. Beyond that, the Constitution stipulates that the passage of legislation is the responsibility of Parliament.”
