The police have launched an investigation into cases of illegal entry and burglary in the Nicosia District, arresting two suspects, aged 27 and 33.
In a statement, the police reported that a 90-year-old woman filed a complaint with the Nicosia Criminal Investigation Department on Thursday, stating that around 1 p.m., an unknown woman had entered her home and stolen a sum of money and several pieces of jewelry.
Subsequently, around 5 p.m. on the same day, members of the Nicosia Criminal Investigation Department located and identified the suspect, a 27-year-old woman. A search of her person revealed 560 euros and a number of gold items, for which she failed to provide adequate and satisfactory explanations regarding the legality of her possession. The woman was arrested on the spot for the offense of unlawful possession of property.
During questioning, the 27-year-old reportedly admitted to the burglary and named a 33-year-old woman as being involved in other residential burglaries. Today, both were arrested pursuant to court warrants and taken into custody for investigative purposes.
On Saturday, they are expected to be re-arrested and brought before the Nicosia District Court for the issuance of detention orders in connection with two additional cases of residential burglaries in the district.
The Nicosia CID is continuing its investigation.
