Turmoil in Cyprus as well: Bomb threat on a Prague–Larnaca flight

A series of alarms continues to sound on aircraft

A flight to Larnaca was the subject of one of the bomb threats made on Friday, amid a barrage of threats received in recent days by several aircraft in Europe.

The flight bound for Larnaca, for which a threat was reported, landed normally and safely at Larnaca Airport, reliable sources told CNA.

“In any case, all necessary precautionary measures have been taken, in accordance with established security procedures,” the same sources said.

A barrage of threats to and from Prague

Today, Friday, several aircraft operating flights to and from Prague and Sofia received new bomb threats, authorities announced.

Four flights arriving at Prague Airport and five flights departing from Prague were the targets of new bomb threats, airport spokeswoman Denisa Hejtmanková told Agence France-Presse.

“The threats concern flights arriving from Denmark, the United Kingdom, and two from Spain. As for departures, they involve flights to the Netherlands, Cyprus, Romania, Italy, and the United Kingdom,” she said.

The airport and the Czech police declined to provide details about the affected flights.

Prague Airport spokesperson Jiří Hanich told Agence France-Presse that “airport operations remain normal and smooth,” despite the threats.

Czech police had already inspected four aircraft on Thursday following similar threats.

A spokesperson for the Bulgarian Ministry of Transport told the Athens-Macedonian News Agency (ANA) that warnings were also received on Friday regarding two flights bound for Sofia. Both flights—one from London Stansted Airport and one from Brussels—landed safely.

Portuguese police reported that a Ryanair flight, scheduled to depart from Lisbon for Rome on Friday, was also targeted.

Dozens of commercial flights in Europe have been the target of false alarms this week, forcing authorities to reroute some aircraft or escort civilian aircraft with fighter jets.
