YPAN Support Programs: Letter to Christodoulides, Annita, and unions from the employees

What they are asking for those who have lost their income
ALPHANEWSLIVE

Permanent employees of the Ministry of Education’s Support Programs, in a letter to the President of the Republic and the Speaker of the House of Representatives, ministries, and labor unions, are submitting a collective proposal to immediately address the serious labor, social, and economic problem faced, as they note, workers without income.

Furthermore, they are asking the Ministry of Education to immediately proceed with distributing and completing the necessary questionnaires to the Social Security Services, so that the cases of affected workers can be reviewed, goodwill can be demonstrated, and workers are given the necessary time to complete the procedures without further delays.

They call on the parliamentary parties and Members of Parliament to take immediate action to amend the Social Security Law by adding a specific provision, to ensure that permanent employees of the Support Programs are eligible to receive unemployment benefits during periods when work is not provided.

Until the necessary consultations and legislative procedures are completed, they request that the possibility of providing temporary financial support or another lawful transitional arrangement be examined immediately, in order to address the employees’ loss of income.

At the same time, they request that the possibility of retroactive financial compensation be examined for the period during which employees were without wages and without unemployment benefits.

They further request to be informed whether there is an intention to immediately distribute the questionnaires, whether there is the political will to amend the law to allow for the payment of unemployment benefits, whether the relevant ministries intend to collaborate on a temporary financial solution, and for a specific timeline for these actions.

They also request that a joint meeting be held between representatives of the workers, the unions, and the relevant ministries to discuss the proposals and reach specific decisions.

They also propose that a written response be provided within ten business days of receipt of this letter. In the event that there is no intention to pursue the above proposals or find a solution, we request that we be provided with an official, written, and reasoned response, they state.
