A derby in Larnaca where both teams have to win!
Anorthosis hosts Omonia today (Nov. 8, 4:00 p.m.) at the “Antonis Papadopoulos” Stadium for the 9th matchday of the Cyprus League by Stoiximan, in a game where both teams are desperate for a win.
“The Lady” is coming off a loss to Aris (2-1) and will look to capitalize on home-field advantage to bounce back and climb out of the lower reaches of the standings.
With just six points, the Famagusta-based team sits in 12th place and cannot afford any more losses. A positive result against last year’s champions would give them some much-needed breathing room before the break for international matches.
On the other hand, the “Greens” want to turn the page after their defeat to Nijmegen in the Europa League and continue their domestic success by securing their second consecutive victory. In their previous match, they defeated AEL 2-0.
The “Clover” is in fourth place with 15 points, five points behind league-leading AEK, and with a win, they could tie AEL for second place while narrowing the gap to the top to just two points.
Henning Berg must manage the fatigue from the past few days, so changes to the starting lineup cannot be ruled out.
On the field, Barak Itzagi will be without Bergström. Furtado, Mindenhorst, and Sergiu are considered doubtful, while Tadi is back.
The visitors will be without the injured Balkovec, Christou, and Nego, as well as the suspended Tanase. Kakoulis is particularly doubtful, while Akintola is back in the Norwegian coach’s lineup.
