Developments on the crossing points after eight years? The four points to be discussed at the Trilateral Meeting

Tillyria residents are up in arms

Eight years after the opening of the last crossing points, tomorrow may bring new developments: The green light may be given to finalize the agreement to open four new crossing points based on the proposal by the UN Secretary-General’s Personal Envoy.

The agenda for the Trilateral Meeting will include the points at Mia Milia, Athienou-Pyroio-Aglantzia, Louroutzina-Lympia, and Kampos–Karavostasi.

In an interview with “Politis,” Maria Angela Olgin conveyed to the leaders that the MOEs could change the climate, given the evident fatigue of public opinion regarding the Cyprus issue, she agreed.

“That’s why I’m optimistic that on Monday we can announce four breakthroughs. It’s something that gives people a little energy.”
María Ángela Olguín

Tillyria on the Sidelines

Ms. Olguín chose to leave the Red Lines out of the discussion to prevent the trilateral talks from falling apart, focusing instead on four points where there is greater common ground. The proposal for the Tillyria region calls for the opening of the Kampos–Karavostasi crossing point, making it clear that:

“Kokkina was never on the table. The Turkish Cypriots had made it clear that it was never an option.”
María Ángela Olguín

The opening of Kokkina runs up against the steadfast refusal of the occupying army, which considers the enclave a “closed military zone of high importance” and refuses to demilitarize it. This development has provoked a reaction from the Communities of Tillyria, which are warning of strong measures and calling on President Christodoulides to honor his commitments.
