The weather today was distinctly wintry, with temperatures dropping sharply and strong winds battering the island from early this morning.
“We had a cold front combined with northerly winds that brought a colder air mass to our region. That’s why the temperature dropped, especially inland and in the mountains. Temperatures didn’t drop as much along the coast, but we saw the greatest drop in temperature mainly in the mountains and inland.”

In addition to the drop in temperature, the winds that hit the island were also noticeable, reaching up to 6 Beaufort.
“Today we had strong winds starting in the morning, mainly from the northeast, reaching up to six Beaufort in some areas, particularly in the east and northeast.”

The strong winds also caused problems. In the Larnaca district, the winds caused damage to pylons in the EAC’s transmission network.
“The gale-force winds caused damage to two pylons of the EAC’s transmission network on the Dhekelia–Larnaca transmission line. Despite the damage, there were no power outages, as an alternative power supply was activated through the Transmission Network and other substations, ensuring an uninterrupted supply of electricity.”
EAC
According to the EAC, it will take approximately 4 weeks to fully repair the damage and restore the utility poles.
Another incident occurred in the Larnaca district, specifically in the Sotiros area, where a tree fell due to strong winds.
Low temperatures will continue tomorrow, though the winds are expected to subside starting tonight. Gradually, through Thursday, temperatures will rise to reach normal levels for this time of year, while rain is expected only on Wednesday, mainly in the mountains.
