The Pelendri Square redevelopment project is currently in the bid evaluation stage, following the re-announcement of the tender, as stated by Interior Minister Konstantinos Ioannou, while also reiterating the government’s intention to invest €3.5 billion in development projects across communities throughout Cyprus, with the support of European funds.
In his remarks on Saturday at the Zivania Festival in Pelendri, the Minister of the Interior stated that the government is systematically investing in community development, through the promotion and implementation of small- and large-scale development projects, with the aim of improving infrastructure and the daily lives of residents.
Referring specifically to the renovation of the village square, he noted that the bidding process has been completed and the Department of Urban Planning and Housing is evaluating the submitted bids so that the project can be restarted and implemented as soon as possible.
At the same time, he said that, in collaboration with the Limassol District Administration, small-scale development projects are being carried out in the community and improvements to the road network are being promoted, while improvement work on the Pelendri-Amiantos road continues.
Mr. Ioannou also referred to the Community Council’s desire to utilize a plot of land near the Church of the Holy Cross to create community spaces, sports facilities, and other developments.
He assured that, once a request for support for the project is submitted, it will be examined with particular care, as part of the government’s plan to invest €3.5 billion in development projects in communities across Cyprus, with the support of European funds.
Referring more generally to the government’s policy on rural areas, the Minister of the Interior emphasized that the goal is to create vibrant communities characterized by economic activity, social cohesion, and prospects for their residents.
As he noted, the development of mountainous regions is not only linked to infrastructure construction but also to the preservation of their cultural identity, highlighting their comparative advantages, and creating opportunities through local production and thematic tourism.
Mr. Ioannou praised the contribution of events such as the Zivania Festival to strengthening the local economy, attracting visitors, and preserving tradition, and congratulated the Pelendri Community Council, the organizing bodies, and the volunteers for putting on the event.
