The woman, who is just 20 years old, suffered an allergic reaction after receiving an injection at a Botox party and was taken to the hospital, according to Elena Panagiotopoulou, Director of Pharmaceutical Services, speaking on the Alpha Kalimera show.

Ms. Panagiotopoulou states that in addition to “Girls Parties,” there are now “Boys Parties” as well, where participants take dietary supplements and various other injectable or intravenous preparations.

“Whether they’re dietary supplements, vitamins, peptides, Botox, hyaluronic acid, or herbal remedies, they are extremely dangerous when administered in places where they shouldn’t be, and homes are certainly not the place for them; it’s even worse when administered by unqualified individuals, and it’s even worse still when they aren’t even licensedpharmaceutical products.”

Ms. Panagiotopoulou points out that the Pharmaceutical Services cannot verify the origin of these products or ensure the quality of the products that are obtained and administered, and she emphasizes that this is extremely.

“That is why, if people and citizens want to receive whatever they want to receive—and they can receive Botox or hyaluronic acid and whatever they think their doctor can help them with— they should go to their doctors—the licensed ones in Cyprus, of whom we have many—and get the pharmaceutical products that are legally available in the Republic of Cyprus, so that they can receive the treatments they need in a lawful and proper manner.”

When asked about the reasons why injectable medications are administered inappropriately at home, she speculates that this is done either because of the cost or, possibly, because a doctor may determine that a particular treatment is not necessary.

Regarding inspections, Ms. Panagiotopoulou explains that inspections of business premises may be conducted by Pharmaceutical Services officials, who may be accompanied by the police.

“In private homes—and this is why it’s so very difficult—it’s extremely difficult even for the police to obtain a warrant to conduct an inspection in a home. It’s extremely difficult for us, too.”
