With two hearings and eight witnesses, the trial regarding the train accident in Tempi continues this week.

According to the schedule set by the Larissa Three-Judge Court of Appeals for Felonies, three witnesses are expected to testify today and five on Tuesday.

Based on the court’s latest update, the list of witnesses includes five passengers from the Intercity train and two relatives of the victims.

According to the Athens-Macedonian News Agency (ANA-MPA), the prosecutor is also expected this week to make recommendations regarding the motions filed by the prosecution’s supporters, specifically Loukas Apostolidis, the defense attorney for Dionysis Georgiadis, father of the seriously injured Gerasimos Georgiadis. The motions concern the subpoenaing of the Secretaries-General of the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure for the period 2016and 2023, as well as the production of documents exchanged between the Greek government and the European Commission regarding railway safety.

At last Monday’s hearing, the prosecutor stated that she is ready to make a recommendation regarding these specific requests; however, due to time constraints and the absence of Mr. Apostolidis, the prosecutor’s recommendation is expected this week.

It should be noted that a request from Pavlos Aslanidis, the father of Dimitris Aslanidis, is still pending regarding the identification and examination of human remains collected from Koulouri and Pigadia, locations to which train wreckage and soil from the crash site were transported.

Last Monday, another request was filed by Zoe Konstantopoulou, counsel for the family of Dennis Ruchi and other relatives of victims, as well as one injured person, to proceed with the exhumations under the “auspices,” as Ms. Konstantopoulou specifically emphasized, of the Three-Member Court of Appeals for Felonies in Larissa.

She noted that she will elaborate on this request at a future hearing. It should be noted that Panos Routsis, Dennis’s father, has already testified at two hearings, and his defense attorney has yet to complete the cross-examination.

It should be recalled that a total of 36 former and current executives of Greek railway organizations—including OSE, ERGOSE, Hellenic Train, RAS, and the Ministry of Transportation.

Thirty-three of the 36 are charged with dangerous interference with fixed-track transportation, possibly with intent to cause harm, through acts that endangered transportation safety, which could have resulted in a general danger to property and a danger to people, and which resulted in:

a) the death of a large number of people,
b) serious bodily injury to several people, and
c) significant damage to public utility facilities, committed repeatedly and in concert.

This felony is punishable by up to life imprisonment.
