Members of the Organized Crime Division (DAOE – Y.K.A.N. – Y.P.E.E.) as part of an operation to investigate a case involving the illegal importation and possession of narcotics, possession of narcotics with intent to distribute, money laundering, and conspiracy to commit a felony.

The investigation began in cooperation with Customs Authorities following the arrival in Cyprus on October 26, 2026, a package containing cannabis, with a total gross weight of two kilograms and 560 grams, addressed to a specific recipient.

As part of the investigation, yesterday at noon, a 62-year-old taxi driver picked up the package from a location in Engomi and was arrested on the spot for a flagrant offense.

Upon his arrest, he stated that he had gone to the location at a customer’s request to pick up and deliver the package to a specific address, without knowing its contents.

Further investigation revealed evidence against the 22-year-old, who was spotted driving in the area. His vehicle was placed under surveillance and subsequently stopped for inspection in Engomi.

During the subsequent search of his car, three nylon packages containing cannabis, with a total gross weight of approximately 100 grams, were found on the floor mat of the passenger seat, resulting in the 22-year-old being arrested on the spot for a flagrant offense.

A further search of the vehicle revealed cannabis in various packages, with a total gross weight of approximately three kilograms and 836 grams. The sum of €4,330 and five cell phones were also found in the 22-year-old’s possession and confiscated.

The 62-year-old was taken to the NARC offices in Nicosia, where he was questioned, and no evidence was found against him. A search of his home followed, with his written consent, but nothing illegal was found. The 62-year-old was released that same evening.

The 22-year-old is expected to appear today before the Nicosia District Court for a detention order to be issued.

The Nicosia DAOE–Y.K.A.N. continues its investigation.
