Police in the Limassol District are investigating a new case of online fraud involving cryptocurrency investments, following a complaint filed today with the Limassol Criminal Investigation Department by a 41-year-old man.
According to the complaint, in early September 2026, the 41-year-old came across an online advertisement for a company promoting cryptocurrency investment opportunities. He then contacted an individual who introduced himself as an investor and was persuaded to initially invest $100,000.
Subsequently, he was shown purported significant profits from his investment, which led him to gradually make additional deposits.
When the complainant asked to withdraw part of his funds, the alleged investors began offering various excuses for not fulfilling his request, while at the same time demanding additional payments, citing procedures for the alleged release of his profits.
The 41-year-old realized he had been the victim of fraud and filed a complaint with the police. According to his complaint, the perpetrators defrauded him of a total of $280,000 between September and November 2026.
The case is being investigated by the Financial Crimes Investigation Office of the Limassol CID.
The public is urged to always verify the legitimacy and reliability of the companies and individuals with whom they do business before proceeding with any investment or money transfer.
The Police remind the public that personal data, passwords, and bank account information should never be disclosed to third parties.
