The condition of the 15 people who are hospitalized after being injured in the bloody attack carried out by a young Polish man, yesterday in Krakow, showed slight improvement overnight, but not all of them are out of danger yet, a police spokesperson said today, according to Polish media reports.

The five foreigners who were injured by gunfire during the attack are citizens of Austria, Britain, Germany, Portugal, and Russia, a spokesperson for the Polish Ministry of the Interior told Reuters earlier.

In addition to the victims of the bloody attack

Ten Poles were also injured in the attack in Krakow, including two police officers. Six people lost their lives, among them a British citizen.

The attacker was seriously wounded by police gunfire. He underwent surgery, and his condition remained critical this morning, according to a police spokesperson.

Investigators, who believe he acted alone, are trying to determine his motives and establish his psychological profile.

Polish authorities at the suspect’s home

Polish media are referring to him only by his first name and the first letter of his last name — Michał O. He was born in 2002 and lived with his parents and sister in an apartment in Ostrowiec Świętokrzyski, a town about a 2-hour drive from Kraków. Their bodies were discovered in their home.

“We found the bodies of three people in an apartment in the center of Ostrowiec Świętokrzyski: a 53-year-old man and two women, aged 52 and 21. They were the parents and sister of the perpetrator,” the police stated in a press release today. “The bodies showed signs of gunshot wounds,” according to the same source. Seven firearms were also seized.

According to investigators cited by the Polish press, Michal O. had no prior run-ins with the judicial authorities. Along with his father, he was a member of a shooting club.

The interior minister stated yesterday that he believes the suspect sympathized with “ultranationalist” ideas. “Everything indicates that he was captivated by far-right ideologies,” said Minister Marcin Kervinski.
