The Indian Ambassador Speaks to “Alpha on Sunday”
The High Commissioner to the Republic of Cyprus discusses Cyprus-India relations in “Alpha on Sunday.” Mr. Manis explains that cooperation between the two countries is developing through business partnerships and that the defense sector is playing a strategic role in their relations.
At the same time, he emphasizes that if Cyprus and India wish to be considered strategic partners, they must take a different approach to the issue of Indian workers on the island,
He makes special mention of the phenomenon of “strip mall colleges,” describing how educational institutions of dubious quality and academic credibility attract Indian students, exploiting the student visa system as a mechanism to channel them into the labor market, often under exploitative conditions and without the basic labor rights guaranteed to foreign workers.
