Gen Z is looking for love the traditional way, according to a recent poll
A recent poll showed that 77% of Gen Z singles now find love the traditional way—in person. At the same time, other research data indicates that events encouraging singles to come alone and meet new people have increased significantly. And what’s interesting is that we’re not necessarily talking about parties or traditional meet-and-greet events. We’re talking about… hobbies.
When hobbies become an opportunity to meet people
Imagine going to a social gathering with no intention of meeting anyone. You sit in a group, laugh, answer questions, and at some point strike up a conversation with the person next to you. Or maybe you go to a pottery workshop, where everyone is trying to create something beautiful and the atmosphere is relaxed. Getting to know someone happens almost naturally. This is perhaps the most wonderful aspect of these activities: you don’t have to go with the goal of finding a partner; you go to have a good time and be creative. And through that, you might just meet your future partner—just like in those romantic comedies on the big screen.
5 Hobbies That Have Become Particularly Popular
Trends show that certain activities are attracting more and more people who want to socialize and meet new groups of friends.
- Trivia nights: The game immediately sparks conversation, teamwork, and laughter.
- Birdwatching: Nature, tranquility, and a shared sense of curiosity create a very different setting for meeting new people.
- Plant Swaps: A wonderful option for those who love plants and want to create something with their own hands.
- Pilates: Exercise meets socializing, creating a more relaxed way to meet people with a similar lifestyle.
- Pottery and crafts: Creativity, a relaxed atmosphere, and plenty of time for conversation.
A connection made in real life, face-to-face, can lead to a happier relationship. According to a study, people who met their partner offline more often reported greater satisfaction with their relationship and stronger feelings of love, intimacy, passion, and commitment compared to those who met online or through dating apps.
Of course, this doesn’t mean that relationships that start online can’t be beautiful and meaningful. It simply means that the way we meet can influence the experience of getting to know each other and the relationship itself.
And what if you don’t find love?
Not every encounter has to lead to a relationship. You might meet a new friend. Discover a hobby you’ve never tried before. Laugh more. You might spend a few pleasant hours without looking at your screen.
