Giorgos Pamporidis laid his cards on the table during a press conference he convened to present his political positions.

The press conference took place three days after he officially submitted his candidacy for the Democratic Alarm’s nomination for the 2028 presidential election.

His platform focuses on the Cyprus issue, inflation and the cost of living, affordable housing, energy costs, education, traffic, healthcare, and the economy. He has set as his primary goal addressing the everyday problems faced by citizens, with an emphasis on practical solutions and interventions in key sectors of society.

The Cyprus issue ranks first among Giorgos Pamboridis’s political priorities. Among the positions he presented are the rejection of partition and a two-state solution, as well as support for a solution based on United Nations resolutions.

At the same time, he advocates for a solution without occupation troops, rights of intervention, or guarantees from Turkey.

The economic pressure faced by households, the cost of basic necessities, and the difficulty of saving for the future are, according to him, key challenges facing society.

To address the high cost of living, George Pamporidis identifies four key areas for intervention: affordable housing, energy costs, the cost of education and extracurricular activities, as well as transportation costs and traffic congestion.

His broader proposals also include the creation of a state that serves its citizens, with a modern and progressive education system, a flexible and digitized public administration, a swift and effective justice system, and a humane and responsive welfare state. His priorities also include investment in research, development, and innovation.

In the area of housing, Giorgos Pamporidis proposes income-based state support and state guarantees for young couples.

His proposals also include rent-to-own programs, rent subsidies, and housing incentives linked to having children.

Reducing the cost of electricity is another priority he outlined. To this end, he proposes transitioning to natural gas and alternative energy sources, completing the electricity interconnection, and modernizing energy infrastructure.

A central goal, as outlined in his platform, is to reduce electricity costs for households.

Regarding the cost of education and supplementary education, Giorgos Pamporidis proposes a comprehensive overhaul of the educational system.

He also proposes the use of school facilities for afternoon classes in small groups, as well as ensuring that all students have access to preparatory courses for studies in Cyprus and abroad.

At the same time, he lists the need for a scientific study to definitively resolve traffic congestion among his priorities.

His proposals include exploring alternative solutions, such as the development of trains, trams, and other innovative modes of transportation. At the same time, he characterizes tackling traffic chaos as an urgent priority and proposes upgrading the Traffic Police with modern equipment and a permanent, specialized staff.

In the area of health, George Pamporidis prioritizes the completion of the autonomy of public hospitals, the activation of university clinics, and the development of e-health.

He also proposes evaluating the personal physician system based on quality criteria, implementing medical protocols, and strengthening the oversight of the National Health System (GeSY). Its positions also include stricter controls and penalties for proven cases of abuse.

In the economic sphere, George Pamporidis sets as his goals sustainable development, boosting productivity and competitiveness, as well as fiscal stability and the responsible management of public resources.

At the same time, he advocates for the creation of high-quality, well-paying jobs, the attraction of foreign investment with added value, and the achievement of economic growth that will bring real benefits to citizens.

In presenting his policy priorities, Giorgos Pamporidis emphasizes that “the circumstances call for seriousness” and that “the problems require practical solutions.”

The positions he presented cover a wide range of issues, from the Cyprus problem and the economy to the daily lives of households, education, health, and transportation.
