“I ask that you not ask me any questions on any subject.” With this appeal to the journalists, President of the Republic Nikos Christodoulides concluded his brief and terse remarks, immediately after returning to the Presidential Palace from his latest meeting with Turkish Cypriot leader Tufan Erhurman.

He described their discussion as “very good and constructive” and announced that it would continue in the presence of the UN Secretary-General’s Personal Envoy on Cyprus, María Ángela Olguín, who is arriving in Cyprus in the coming days to hold bilateral meetings with the leaders and a trilateral meeting with Christodoulides and Erhurman.

Mr. Christodoulides announced that he agreed with Mr. Erhurman not to make any statements regarding the specific topics discussed at today’s meeting, which is why the United Nations did not issue a joint communiqué.

Regarding the successive meetings the two leaders held with the Bi-communal Committees on Culture and Youth, as well as with the Council for Civil Society, the President of the Republic said that constructive proposals were put forward.
