Imanol Alguacil has the chance to achieve a special milestone on the Olympiacos bench if the “Red-and-Whites” come away with a victory in today’s match against Kifissia at Leoforos.
With the 2-0 win over Marko in the Greek Cup, Olympiacos has now recorded eight consecutive wins across all competitions, and the Spanish coach has matched the corresponding record set by Pedro Martins in the spring of 2019.
Thus, one more victory will extend the current streak to nine and allow Al-Ghuathil to surpass the Portuguese coach’s best such record during his tenure on the Piraeus club’s bench.
In fact, there is a significant difference between the two streaks. Olympiacos’ run this season also includes three European matches, a fact that raises the level of difficulty, whereas Martins’ 2019 streak consisted exclusively of league matches.
At that time, the “Red-and-Whites” had already wrapped up their commitments in both the Cup and the Europa League by February and closed out the season with eight consecutive wins in the Super League.
Martins’ team’s winning streak came against Apollon Smyrnis (2-0), Aris (4-1), Panathinaikos (3-0), Atromitos (2-1), Panetolikos (5-0), Xanthi (4-0), Lamia (3-1), and AEL (3-0).
