Stamford Bridge will once again be decked out for a fierce showdown between Chelsea and Manchester United, two wounded giants of English soccer. Both rivals are looking for a result that will give them the much-needed momentum moving forward.
The “Blues” will host the “Red Devils” with victory as their sole objective, as both teams are coming off a string of poor results. The match takes on special significance, as neither team can afford to drop any more points.
Chabi Alonso’s team suffered a shocking 2-0 home loss to Tottenham, and was eliminated from the League Cup by Liverpool at Anfield in a penalty shootout (1-1 in regulation, 6-5 on penalties).
On the other hand, Michael Carrick’s position is on the line, as United has gone eight consecutive matches without a win across all competitions. Now, his team must bounce back in order to turn around the negative momentum and return to winning ways.
