Norris “danced” in the rain and won the dramatic Interlagos qualifying session

Lando norris was the one who secured pole position

He danced… in the rain, and Lando Norris won the most dramatic qualifying session of the season!

The weather conditions and the torrential rain falling in the São Paulo area lent a wild beauty to the Brazilian Grand Prix qualifying sessions, which were suspended for more than an hour and a half during Q1, as conditions on the Interlagos track were extremely dangerous for the drivers!

As the weather and rain subsided and the track gradually improved, the session continued, and the British McLaren driver was ultimately the one to set the fastest lap in Q3 with a time of 1:27.470.

Norris fought a fierce battle with George Russell toward the end of the session, with last year’s champion edging him out by two-tenths of a second to claim his fourth pole position of the season. With conditions deteriorating three minutes before the end of Q3, none of the drivers risked heading out onto the track for a final attempt, and so Lando Norris celebrated his pole position earlier than anyone would have expected.

It was telling that immediately after the end of qualifying… the skies opened up, and forecasts predict similar weather conditions for tomorrow’s race as well.

The third-fastest time was set by the 2026 World Champion, Kimi Antonelli, who, however, has received a five-position grid penalty. The same happened to Charles Leclerc, who finished fourth but changed his engine and will start tomorrow’s race from 14th place. As a result, Racing Bulls’ Liam Lawson will start in third place on the grid (!), with Audi’s Nico Hülkenberg rounding out the second row.

Max Verstappen (16th), Lewis Hamilton (11th), and Oscar Piastri (12th) failed to advance to Q3, with the Dutchman, however, set to start the Grand Prix from last place due to the numerous changes he made to his car. One spot ahead of him, in 21st, will be the seven-time British world champion for exactly the same reason.
