Christos Tornaritis posted a message on social media regarding Olympiacos’ 95th-anniversary celebration, taking a swipe at the club’s vice president, Nikos Nouris, over the issue of establishing a training center.
As he claims, during his tenure as club president from 2018 to 2023, he had donated land he owned in Latsia for that specific purpose. However, the effort did not move forward, as Nouris, who was then Minister of the Interior, rejected the request.
Instead, as Tornaritis reports, Nouris yesterday asked the President of the Republic, Nicos Christodoulides, to grant land for the creation of a training center. In response to this move, Tornaritis accused him of hypocrisy and political opportunism.
At the same time, he expressed his dissatisfaction at not having been invited to the anniversary event, recalling his contribution to Olympiacos, as well as the fact that the club’s debts were paid off during his tenure.
In detail: “When I led Olympiacos from 2018 to 2023, together with Petros Savvas, we worked to create a training center. I had set aside 17,800 square meters of my own land in Latsia, which I intended to donate to Olympiacos. To this was added another large plot of land that had been granted to us by the Land Registry. We prepared the initial architectural plans with Katia Tappa and held repeated meetings with the then Minister of the Interior, Nikos Nouris, to obtain a permit for the training center. Our request was rejected during his tenure as minister.
Today, Nikos Nouris is the vice president of Olympiacos. And yesterday, at the event celebrating the club’s 95th anniversary, Olympiacos asked the President of the Republic, Nikos Christodoulides, for land to build a training center! I wasn’t invited to that same event… They decided that Christoforos Tornaritis, who paid off all the club’s debts and dedicated 10 of his 95 years to Olympiacos’ history, wasn’t even worthy of an invitation.
Such contributions, however, cannot be erased by a group of opportunists or a guest list. When he could have supported our efforts, Nikos Nouris shut the door on us.
Today, through the club’s administration, he appears to be asking for what he himself failed to do. For me, this contradiction has a name: hypocrisy and political opportunism. Olympiacos deserves consistency and respect. And its fans deserve to know and remember.”
