Olympiacos: The situation regarding Joseph in light of developments surrounding Wokap

How are the two cases connected?

Developments in the Thomas Walkup case are unfolding rapidly, with Dubai BC having intensified its efforts in recent hours to sign him ahead of the new season.

The United Arab Emirates club appears ready to submit a €1,000,000 to Olympiacos to acquire the 33-year-old Texan guard, who is under contract with the “Red-and-Whites” under contract until the summer of 2027, and while the two sides are in open talks regarding the possibility of renewing his contract with significantly better terms than the player currently has the player currently receives.

Despite the pressure and determination shown by Dubai BC to sign the experienced star—as evidenced by the substantial offer made to Olympiacos— as well as the three-year contract with annual earnings ranging from €2,500,000 to €3,000,000 offered to the player, the first and final say rests with Giorgos Bartzokas’s team.

As is easy to see, the name Cory Joseph also comes into play in this equation, as it is directly linked to Wokap’s future with the European champions. This is because, following the additions of Jan Montero and Cody Miller-McIntyre, Olympiacos now has three point guards on its roster, and the team has decided to extend the deadline until the 15th of the month for final discussions with Joseph regarding whether he will ultimately remain with the “red-and-white” squad next season.

As the situation now stands, in the event that Thomas Walkup leaves, all signs point to Olympiacos exercising Joseph’s contract extension option and keeping him on the roster; otherwise, his future with the team becomes “uncertain.”

With the Walkup situation entering its final stages, the Piraeus club will turn its attention to Tyler Dorsey, as these two players have been at the center of the contract renewal discussions.

Olympiacos officials are determined to significantly increase the Greek-American scorer’s annual salary and “tie him down” at the port for several more years, while they are also actively working to strengthen the Greek presence on the roster by adding young and talented athletes as an investment for the future, as is the case with Nikos Plotas.
