Officials from the Cretan club have put an end to the transfer rumors linking OFI with Cédric Bakambu and Anton Donkor.
In recent days, OFI’s name has been at the center of media reports regarding both the Congolese forward and the 28-year-old left back from Schalke. However, the “black-and-whites” have categorically denied both reports.
“There has been no discussion and there is currently no discussion regarding the signing of Bakambu, nor is there any discussion regarding the signing of Schalke’s Donkor. We are not looking for a left back,” OFI made clear.
Cédric Bakambu played for Betis last season and is familiar to Greek fans from his time with Olympiacos during the 2022–23 season.
As for Anton Donkor, a German report in “Bild” had stated that the Cretans were close to signing him as a free agent from Schalke. The same report claimed that the German club was open to his departure in order to save a sum approaching 800,000 euros.
Donkor made 31 appearances and recorded one assist during his two years with Schalke in Germany’s second division, without managing to establish himself as a starter. In the past, he has played for Braunschweig, Mannheim, Carl Zeiss Jena, Hansa Rostock, and Wolfsburg’s reserve team.
