Reputable journalist César Luis Merlo reports that all parties have reached a full agreement regarding Orbelín Pineda’s transfer from AEK to Monterrey. According to him, the “Rayados” will pay the €8 million buyout clause for the 30-year-old midfielder.
“After the 2026 World Cup, Orbelín Pineda is close to returning to Mexican soccer with Monterrey, a club with which he has already reached a verbal agreement. Monterrey will pay the release clause, worth nearly eight million euros, for Orbelín’s transfer, and he will sign a four-year contract. At Monterrey, Orbelin will be reunited with coach Matías Almeida, with whom he played for Chivas and AEK and won numerous titles,” Merlo reports.

It should be noted that if Monterrey decides to pay the full buyout clause to AEK in a lump sum, then—having already reached an agreement with the Mexican star—the Greek league champions will have no say in the matter.
