Investigations are in full swing into the death of the 38-year-old police officer, who was found dead inside a standard police vehicle in Agios Dimitrios, with authorities working to shed light on the circumstances under which he lost his life.

According to reports, based on the external examination conducted by the medical examiner, it was estimated that the officer’s death occurred approximately 10 to 12 hours before his body was found. As for the cause of death, it most likely resulted from severe pulmonary edema, as there were signs of hypoxia—that is, indications of a lack of oxygen in the body.

At the same time, another piece of evidence that has come under scrutiny by the authorities concerns the findings inside the service vehicle. According to reports, a bottle of gin was found, most of whose contents had been consumed.

This discovery is expected to be evaluated in conjunction with the results of the laboratory tests, though no conclusion can yet be drawn as to whether or to what extent it is linked to the police officer’s death.

Toxicology Tests Are
Key

The authorities’ focus has now shifted to the toxicology tests, the results of which are expected to provide crucial answers regarding the circumstances under which the 38-year-old died.

The tests are expected to reveal whether alcohol, pharmaceuticals, or other substances were present in his system and, most importantly, at what concentrations. At the same time, an autopsy is expected to be performed in the coming hours, which is considered crucial for establishing a complete picture of the circumstances of his death.

The results will be evaluated in conjunction with the forensic findings and the evidence already gathered by police at the scene.

Found dead inside a police vehicle

The 38-year-old police officer, who served in the Athens Patrol Sub-Directorate, was found dead inside a standard police vehicle at the intersection of Pikrodafnis and Vouliagmenis Streets in Agios Dimitrios. The vehicle was locked, and a thorough search of the interior was conducted by the relevant authorities.

Officers from the Hellenic Police were present at the scene, including officers from the Security Division and the Organized Crime Division, and the investigation was completed in the early morning hours. His cell phone, which remained active, appears to have played a crucial role in the search for the officer.

Authorities determined that the phone was transmitting a signal via a cell tower in the wider area of Agios Dimitrios. The search focused on that area, and the 38-year-old was eventually found dead inside his police vehicle. His partner had reported him missing on Monday evening, as she had not heard from him since the previous night. The police officer was supposed to report for duty that morning, which did not happen.

His final hours under scrutiny

With the new forensic findings, the investigation is now focusing on the final hours before his death. The time of death, estimated to be approximately 10 to 12 hours before his body was found, the findings from the remains, the bottle of gin found in the car, and, most importantly, the results of the toxicology tests are expected to paint a clearer picture of the case.

The main priority for the authorities is to clarify exactly what happened before the police officer’s death and what led to his demise.
