In comments posted on the CFF website, Marios Nikolaou spoke about his first game today as head coach of our national team:
“The players put in a very good effort, but unfortunately we didn’t get a result. We conceded some goals that we might have been able to avoid.
The first goal came on a penalty kick, and up until that point, Romania hadn’t really threatened us. The second goal followed in stoppage time, a turn of events that certainly affected us.
In the second half, we put in a great effort; we were in control and had the shot that hit the crossbar before Romania scored their third goal on a counterattack.”
Following the match against Romania, we have an away game in Kosovo, and our national team coach emphasizes:
“We have five days ahead of us, and we’ll always do our best. We’re taking away some positives that will help us, but we also had some negatives, and we need to work on improving.
We know our strengths as well as our weaknesses; we’ll keep working hard and will always aim for the best. We’re the national team, and we have a responsibility to our country; we must always give our very best.”
