Transmission occurs primarily through the inhalation of microscopic water droplets containing the bacterium, although in some cases it can also result from ingesting contaminated water. The bacterium can grow in water supply systems, tanks, and hot and cold water systems, particularly when proper maintenance and inspection measures are not implemented.

So far, based on the information made public, the source of the infection has not been identified, nor has any further information been provided regarding the newborn’s health.
