The dispute over the recount of the votes for selecting and ranking the for the KEE “members of parliament,” which took place on Saturday. Today, Muslu Akgünay, the voting coordinator, speaking on Channel “T,” , said that some voters did not place their ballots in the ballot box, some tore them up, and others forgot them and put them in their pockets, adding that “some ballots may be missing.”
As reported in the occupied territories, Mr. Akgünay added that no preparations had been made for a recount of the ballots.
What had been requested of the CEC members who voted, he explained, was to leave the ballots in the ballot box, but not everyone followed this instruction. He said that some took them with them, while others threw them on the ground or tore them up. Consequently, he noted that the number of ballots found in the ballot boxes may be fewer than the number of votes recorded in the digital system, and this discrepancy could affect the candidates’ rankingscandidates.
He explained that in previous intra-party elections, special preparations were made for the possibility of a manual count, but in these elections, it was expected that the results would be obtained quickly through the digital system, and no such measures were taken.
He stated that the digital infrastructure was installed by a company from Turkey with which the KEE collaborated, but he did not disclose the company’s name. He said he observed the preparation process and the test vote under the supervision of the “Supreme Electoral Council” the night before the election, during which everything went smoothly.
He also noted that 58 officials from the “Supreme Electoral Council” participated in the election, and two of them, along with two technical operators, were present at the system’s control center.
Mr. Akgünay said that the server and the computers used for voting were under the supervision of the “Supreme Electoral Council,” and that party officials were not allowed access, while the election committee could only monitor the total number of participants but not the votes received by the candidates or which members had come to vote.
He also stated that they had handed over to the “Supreme Electoral Council” one of the hard drives containing data, explaining that the operations performed on the system leave traces in the log files and any changes could be detected using this method.
And while the official announcement of the results has not yet taken place and the ballot boxes are being guarded by the “police” at the venue where the KEE convention was held on Saturday, Akguney said that, according to the party’s bylaws, the Party Assembly and the Central Executive Council, the two highest party bodies, may intervene to complete the process. The final decision, he noted, will be made by the KEE leadership.
It should be noted that the CHP chairman and “prime minister” Unal Ustel has been in Ankara since Saturday evening, where it was announced today that he met with Turkish Vice President Cevdet Yılmaz, Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan, and Defense Minister Yasar Güler.
