Three people, including two minors, were arrested on suspicion of involvement in an alleged plot to carry out an armed attack at a high school in the Atlanta metropolitan area, authorities announced on Tuesday.

The case comes less than two weeks after an armed attack at an elementary school in central Oregon, where a 16-year-old killed three children and a teacher.

The Threatening Posts

According to a statement from the Canton Police Department, the FBI identified threatening posts online that were allegedly published by one of the suspects. The FBI then collaborated with local police to arrest the three individuals on October 20 and 23.

Two of the suspects were arrested in Georgia and the third in California. Weapons and ammunition were seized during the operation.

All three were arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to commit murder. Police reported that one is 21 years old and another is 17, without disclosing the age of the third suspect, other than that he is a minor.

The latter also faces a charge of disrupting or obstructing the operation of public schools.

One of the suspects is a former high school student

The superintendent of Cherokee County Schools, Mary Elizabeth Davis, stated, according to WSB-TV, that the minor was a former student at Cherokee High School.

The Canton Police Department announced that the investigation is ongoing, without providing further details about the nature of the plan the suspects allegedly had devised or how close they were to carrying it out.
