U.S. President Donald Trump said Wednesday that a meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and his Ukrainian counterpart Volodymyr Zelenskyy will be arranged “very soon.” “A meeting will be arranged very soon, and I think great progress can be made,” Trump told reporters.
The statement comes at a time when the Trump administration is stepping up diplomatic efforts to end the Russia-Ukraine war, which is entering its fifth year.

Zelenskyy had stated on Sunday that a trilateral meeting between Kyiv, Washington, and Moscow would take place in November, with the aim of restarting the stalled peace talks. The Kremlin had reported earlier that the meeting of the three countries was scheduled to take place in the United Arab Emirates in November.
Putin, who ordered the invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, consistently rejects face-to-face talks with Zelenskyy and insists that Moscow intends to seize the rest of eastern Ukraine.
Trump took office in January 2025, promising to end the war within 24 hours. However, more than a year of U.S.-brokered talks has yielded no substantial progress, while tens of thousands of people have been killed.
In recent days, Trump has once again shifted his focus from Ukraine to Putin, touting a deal under which Russia would sell diesel and help lower prices, which have skyrocketed due to its war with Iran.
