German authorities are investigating a car attack on a group of people in the Hanover area on Monday night. At least five people were injured in the incident, while three people are already in custody, and police have not ruled out further arrests.
The incident occurred on Monday evening when a car deliberately drove into a group of people standing on a sidewalk in Hanover.

According to the information available so far, after the initial collision, the driver reversed and attempted to run over the people at the scene again.
The second attempt was thwarted thanks to the immediate intervention of police officers, who were conducting a routine traffic check in the area at the time.

The police officers attempted to stop the vehicle, but the occupants tried to flee. The officers then shot at the car’s tires, causing those involved to abandon the vehicle and flee on foot.
At least five people were injured in the attack; according to available information, none of them are in life-threatening condition.

Authorities are investigating a possible gang conflict
Investigations by German authorities are focusing on the possibility that the attack was part of a settling of scores between rival gangs.
According to North German Radio and Television (NDR), the individuals involved are linked to families whose members have previously come to the attention of law enforcement for various crimes related to criminal gang activity.
So far, three people have been taken into custody, while the investigation is ongoing and further arrests cannot be ruled out.
