Shortly after 3:00 a.m., two individuals riding a motorcycle with their heads covered approached the building housing a well-known tavern in Pyrgos, Limassol.
The passenger got off the motorcycle and placed the explosive device at the tavern’s entrance; a few seconds later, a deafening explosion rocked the area.
The explosion caused extensive damage to the building, its facade, and the interior.
POLICE
“Investigations determined that the explosion was caused by the detonation of a metal explosive device filled with a low-yield explosive and placed at the entrance to the tavern.”
The scene remained cordoned off, and further investigations were conducted at first light.
Investigators from the Limassol Criminal Investigation Department obtained footage from security cameras in the area, which shows, frame by frame, the actions of the criminals, who most likely acted on someone’s orders.
According to information from Alpha, the business in question is a family-owned enterprise belonging to a 60-year-old Greek Cypriot. According to the same sources, the investigation is focusing on disputes believed to involve the owner’s son, who is currently on trial at the Central Prisons for a domestic violence case.
