The building, from the 6th floor of which a steel structure—specifically a pergola—fell, crushing one vehicle and damaging a second, had the necessary permits, Charalambos Pittokopitis, President of the Paphos Engineering Association (EOA), told CNA, according to information he received from the Organization’s Licensing Department.
Mr. Pittokopitis noted that the building in question had both a zoning permit and a building permit. At this time, he said, we are investigating the circumstances under which the pergola detached from that specific spot, resulting in the two vehicles being crushed. The investigation into the incident, Mr. Pittokopitis continued, will continue tomorrow.

The pergola fell during heavy rainfall and strong winds, crushing one vehicle and then a second one that was parked behind the first.
According to Paphos Mayor Angelos Onisiforou, the vehicles were parked and unoccupied at the time.
“This incident serves as a reminder of just how dangerous weather phenomena can become, but also of how important it is to take all necessary safety measures to protect citizens,” Mr. Onisiforou emphasized.
