The three teachers’ organizations—POED, OELMEK, and OLTEK, have decided to send a letter to the President of the Republic, Nikos Christodoulides, regarding the issue of appointments in education, without ruling out escalating their response if no resolution is reached.
In statements to KYPE, POED President Myria Vassiliou, said that today, at a joint meeting, the three teachers’ unions essentially confirmed “the impasse, which is evident from the unyielding position of the Ministry of Education, Sports, and Youth regarding the proposal it has submitted on the issue of appointments in education and its approach to the matter.”
As he noted, educators’ organizations cannot accept a proposal that essentially victimizes hundreds of teachers, who will either be left without a job or deprived of the prospect of permanent employment.
Responding to a question, Ms. Vassiliou said they had decided to send a letter to the President of the Republic, Nikos Christodoulides, to schedule a meeting with them so that he could hear their positions and concerns, hoping for his intervention.
“If no resolution is reached, the teachers’ organizations will escalate their protest measures,” he concluded.
