The action in the Spanish Cup continued on Thursday with a major upset. Numancia stole the show, managing to knock Real Oviedo out of the competition in a match that came down to a penalty shootout.
The two teams put on an impressive game, with the score remaining 3-3 both in regulation and after extra time. In the penalty shootout, however, the home team proved to be the cooler-headed side, winning 4-2 and celebrating a remarkable advancement. Numancia’s victory is all the more significant given that they compete in the fourth division of Spanish soccer, while Real Oviedo plays in the second division.
In the other matches, the favorites avoided any unpleasant surprises. Osasuna put on an impressive performance at Atlético Caltajún’s home field, winning by a lopsided 6-0 margin, while Getafe had to step up its game and stage a comeback against Lebrihana, ultimately winning 3-2 and avoiding yet another painful defeat.
Granada emerged victorious from their away match at Sieta with a 3-0 win, while Real Valladolid advanced with a narrow 1-0 victory over Covadonga. Huesca also had an easy time of it, defeating Peña Sport 5-1 and confirming their superiority.
Meanwhile, Sevilla and Athletic Bilbao also secured their spots in the next round, the former winning 3-0 and the Basques 6-1; both advanced without any major issues, continuing their run in the tournament.
