Bayern Munich has made Vincent Kompany’s health its top priority, going so far as to forbid the Belgian coach from even discussing soccer with his immediate staff.
The 40-year-old coach remains under medical supervision following his collapse at the team’s training center a week ago. Since being discharged from the hospital, he has been taking medication for meningitis, and doctors have recommended that he rest completely at home.
Bayern is taking the situation very seriously and has given clear instructions to those close to Kompany. Interim coach Aaron Danks revealed that he is not allowed to discuss tactics, match analysis, or starting lineup decisions with him.
“No, absolutely not. It’s not allowed under any circumstances. We’re taking this situation very seriously,” Dankes said.
As he explained, the directive comes directly from Max Eberl and Christoph Freud.
“I have clear instructions from Max and Christoph not to even get involved in such discussions and not to burden Vince with anything other than his health and time with his family,” he added.
This means that even if Kompany himself attempts to bring up soccer during a phone call or visit, his staff has been instructed not to continue the conversation.
Doctors have also asked the Belgian to make a full recovery before returning to his duties, as he had previously suffered from a viral infection that he did not treat with the necessary rest. In recent weeks, he had placed significant strain on his body, including due to limited sleep caused by analyzing matches late at night.
Danks made it clear that the entire Bayern staff is strictly following the guidelines.
“We want him to rest and recover properly so that when he returns to us, he’ll be back at full strength and able to help us in the best way possible. We’re very strict about this and are putting soccer completely aside,” he emphasized.
