Iran’s armed forces were ordered to launch an “immediate and effective response, without geographical restrictions,” in the event of a new attack by the United States or another adversary of Tehran, issued by the country’s supreme leader, Ayatollah Mojtaba Khamenei, according to a report by the Iranian news agency IRNA on Saturday.

During his meeting with senior military commanders, Khamenei called for strengthening the operational readiness of Iranian forces, emphasizing their ability to respond immediately to a potential new military conflict. As he noted, “intelligent military readiness for a strong confrontation with the enemies” is a fundamental prerequisite for ensuring “maximum deterrence.”
“If the enemies launch military or terrorist attacks once again, the armed forces of the Islamic Republic and the Iranian nation will be the ones to determine the timing and conditions for their end,” the Iranian leader warned.
It should be noted that the new directives come at a time of heightened tension between Tehran, Washington, and Israel, with the Iranian side preparing for the possibility of new U.S. military operations, while diplomatic efforts to prevent further escalation continue.
U.S. and Israeli interests in the crosshairs
According to IRNA, Khamenei’s strategic directives also include updating the Iranian armed forces’ so-called “target bank.” The directive calls for expanding the list of potential targets, so that all types of tangible and intangible assets belonging to the United States and Israel fall within the operational range of Iranian forces.
Mohtaba Khamenei’s meeting with the top commanders of the Iranian armed forces was also confirmed via the Iranian leader’s account on the X platform. The related post states that Khamenei issued “important and strategic orders” to the country’s military leadership, noting that further details will be made public.
