Lionel Messi has received five yellow cards this MLS season, including the one he received in Inter Miami’s last match against Cincinnati (2-2). However, while a one-match suspension is typically the penalty in such cases, the Argentine superstar will NOT be suspended.
The reason? MLS has a peculiar good-conduct rule, under which one yellow card is removed from a player’s total if he plays in five consecutive games without receiving a card.
The 39-year-old star has played in five consecutive matches without receiving a card on several occasions, so the rule applies to him and he will not serve a one-match suspension.
In 29 appearances this season in MLS, “Leo” has 25 goals and 13 assists.
